Volunteers & Caddies

Volunteers & Caddies

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at the 2017 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.

The 2017 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship will be the biggest golf tournament ever staged in New Zealand. It will feature the Asia-Pacific region’s top amateur male golfers, some of whom will go on to successful professional careers. The winner will receive direct entry to the 2018 Masters and Open Championship. The tournament will be broadcast live for three hours daily to over 150 countries.

The success of the tournament depends on the commitment of an army of volunteers made up of people just like you.  Your expertise, energy and enthusiasm is needed!

Being a volunteer is a unique behind the scenes way to experience the Tournament. It’s fun, it’s exciting and gratifying to know your contribution is making a difference.

For further information on Non Caddie volunteering, please contact Peter Hazledine at volunteers@royalwellington.com or for further information on Caddie volunteering, please contact Andrew Whiley at caddies@royalwellington.com.  We’ll endeavour to get straight back to you.

Volunteer Roles

Volunteer positions at the 2017 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship cover a wide range of roles. We require enthusiastic, motivated and passionate volunteers who want to have fun and who can commit their time and energy to bring this fantastic event to life. Whether you are a golfer of not, we have a number of roles that will suit you:

  • Caddies (see below)
  • Course Marshals
  • Mobile Scoreboard carriers
  • Walker Scorers
  • Practice Range Attendant
  • Hosts & General

There may also be other roles that emerge.

Shifts

In general, volunteers are asked to complete four shifts during the tournament. Preference will be given to volunteers who can commit to four days. Most tasks will have an a.m. and p.m. shift and all will be at Royal Wellington Golf Club.  Morning starts will be early and volunteers should report in to the Volunteer Headquarters before the start of play.

Caddies:

The format is two practice days (Tuesday/Wednesday) and four competition days (Thursday – Sunday). Preference will be given to caddies who can commit for six days to provide continuity for the players but other combinations of days will be considered if required. Because there is a halfway cut to around 60 players some caddies will only be required for 4 days. Pull trolleys will be provided for all caddies (who want them). Also, please note any language skills in the comments box on the registration page

Volunteers Will Receive:

  • A round of golf at Royal Wellington Golf Club (4 shifts required)
  • A volunteer polo shirt
  • A volunteer cap
  • A lightweight jacket
  • Lunch daily
